U.S. Capitol Police said they were investigating a suspicious vehicle about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday after a man pulled his Chevy Tahoe in front of the U.S. Supreme Court, where the justices were set to hear arguments in a Michigan case starting at 10 a.m.

Deputy Chief Jason Bell said Tuesday that when officials approached the man's vehicle he "made a statement to the effect of, 'The time for talking is done.'"

"Michael Foy is among the most violent of the rioters that day," Assistant U.S. Attorney Hank Moon argued at the hearing, which came one day after the government drafted a detailed account of Foy's alleged actions.

"Images and video taken at the Capitol show Foy attacking officers guarding the doors. The scene is chaotic, graphic, and brutal. Rioters hurled projectiles at the officers and physically assaulted them, often using weapons like poles, bottles, and in Foy’s case, a hockey stick," prosecutors wrote in a court filing, arguing Foy was more than a "bystander" in the violent protest, he was a leader.

Michael Joseph Foy was identified by the FBI through news tips and footage collected by several media outlets, where footage shows him swinging a hockey stick at a police officer on the ground.

He's been charged with several felonies, including obstruction of law enforcement, forcibly assault, resist, oppose, impede, intimidate, or interfere with any officer of the United States, aiding and abetting, and the obstruction of an official proceeding of Congress.

In a YouTube video identified by the FBI, it shows Foy "striking a group of Metropolitan Police Officer (MPD) assisting in the protection of the U.S. Capitol who had been knocked down and dragged into the crowd of rioters."

Foy hits the officer for approximately 16 seconds before he's knocked down by another rioter.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - A Grand Traverse County Commissioner displayed a rifle during an online meeting in response to a citizen's comments about a far-right extremist group, drawing outrage from some local residents.

During a public comment period, a local woman, Kelli MacIntash, criticized the board for allowing self-described members of the Proud Boys to speak at a commission meeting last year and urged commission Chairman Rob Hentschel to denounce them. The neo-fascist group is known for engaging in violent clashes at political rallies and some of its members took part in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Two self-described members of the Proud Boys spoke to the county board last March in support of a pro-Second Amendment resolution the panel adopted.

Clous said he won’t denounce any group, including Black Lives Matter, the NFL, or LBGTQ organizations.

"The only thing I know about them (Proud Boys) is when they came and spoke to us," Clous said. "They were probably the most respected folks that got up and talked. They were decent guys and they treated us with respect."

Proud Boys has been labeled a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and an extremist group by the FBI.

Hentschel, the board chairman, laughed in response to Clous’ actions and said he had no problem with what Clous did.

Who needs tourism, eh?

The FBI said Dresch's social media activity on Jan. 6, especially photos, led investigators to him. He posted several messages and joked about the use of tear gas by police at the Capitol.

Karl Dresch is the son of former state lawmaker Rep. Stephen Dresch, R-Hancock, according to public records. Dresch, who passed away in 2006, served in the state House of Representatives from 1990-92, when he unsuccessfully ran for Congress.

A former business and economics dean at Michigan Tech University, Stephen Dresch helped expose fraud by an investment arm of the university as he was entering the Legislature. As a legislator, he was a vocal critic of a 1993 House Fiscal Agency scandal in which $300,000 was spent for unauthorized employee bonuses and legal fees by the agency.

In 2005, Stephen Dresch tipped off the FBI and members of Congress to explosives that were hidden in the former home of Terry Nichols, a Michigan resident convicted as an accomplice to Timothy McVeigh in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.

The former lawmaker owned a firm called Forensic Intelligence International and came by the information through advocacy work with mobster Gregory Scarpa Jr., who was being held in the same prison as Nichols.
